Tooth what?

Having just learned to "travel light" with only a backpack, and not liking to check luggage, I was devastated to hear that toothpaste is now on the list of items banned from carryons.

Hairspray, shampoo & makeup I can travel without (hotels always have those nice little bottles of shampoo) but toothpaste is an essential!

Not to worry - I have found a solution. I remembered that my father always preferred to use tooth powder. It came in a metal can, and he would pour some into his hand, mix it wth a little water, and make a paste which he then used to brush his teeth. I wondered if they still made such a product, and sent Tom out to find some, while I packed my backpack for a quick trip to Minnesota. They do still make tooth powder, Arm & Hammer produces it, and I made it through airpor security with no problems.

Ah, sometimes the good old days really were.

Another Birthday

Happy Birthday to Diane - August 22!

A Visit With the Kids

Erika and Mike spent last weekend with us- always too short a time, but we had fun.

Susan, Rob & Ian came on Saturday, and we took the boat over to our famous swimming area. The lake was very rough and the weather had turned quite cool, but that didn't deter the guys from jumping in. That's not a bear cub in the upper right corner of the photo - see the next shot. yes, it's Mike - barefoot and dripping wet- off to climb the cliff and terrorize the campers at the top. (See Erika & Mike's blog for the whole story)

This is one of our grandpuppies- it's Lizbeth - you can tell because her collar and leash are pink! Scooby looks just like her, but he is a little larger and sports a blue ensemble. Note the pretty bow on Lizbeth's head! Those bag clips are pretty versatile.

Erika's friends Carie and Tom came to visit, and as soon as the sun set it got quite cold. The gals (and dogs) opted for going inside - note who has the couch!

We all had a great time, and we look forward to our next visit.

Good Relations

Hilary, Chuck, Nick & Joseph (those distant Dunkirkians) spent a few days with Susan, Rob, & Ian in Syracuse. Rich, Diane, Chandler, Garrett, Tom & I joined them for a barbeque.

Susan says: Welcome to my pool!

Some of the crew enjoying the sun!

Brotherly love

Diane & Garrett - I wonder where Chandler & Ian have run off to?

Aunt Susan & Nick- Just a few more inches and he'll be taller than Sue!

Hilary, Chuck & Joseph - Little Joe will be a year old in September.

Pretty Scene

Although we like hot, still summer days, the sailboaters prefer some wind. This was a good day to set sail!

Keeping Cool

During the recent spate of hot weather, everyone was looking for a way to keep cool. Here are the neighborhood "boys" - they claim they are testing this out to make sure it's safe for the kids!

Tom & I opted for a more secluded swimming area- here we are anchored north of Taughannock Falls State Park. And yes, he's going to jump!
