School is Out!!

Today was the last day of school for our kids, and teachers have to work 1/2 day tomorrow. then I'm off to Loket to join Tom for the summer. Yeah!!

I am going by bus- hopefully my last time, although the ride isn't too bad. For this trip though I got the last seat on the bus- in the back row. Not exactly excited about that!

Normal scene in Loket

Three o'clock - and it's time for a fanfare! Not sure if you can see it - but that piece of music is titled "Karlovarsky Fanfare".
Loket is often full of surprises, and today was no exception. As we were strolling about town this afternoon, this group of musicians set up shop on the square and started to play.

It was great! We think they may have been the "advance team" for the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra who is performing in the ampitheater this evening. We will not be attending that concert because it is COLD here!!! It hasn't reached 60 yet, and there are grey threatening clouds everywhere!
We will wait for their return performance in July :-) when hopefully it will be warmer!

Hiking around

Wandering around the village

We love to just wander about the village to see what can be seen. Below are some random photos Tom's taken over the last few weeks.

The village reflected in the Ohre River.....

The brand new high-ropes course... getting through the swinging LOKET isn't easy!

Enjoying the sun by the castle wall.....

A friend practising his stage presence at the ampitheater.....

Watching the street....

Now this is what Tom calls a cottage! He wants it, or one just like it, outhouse and all!

Biking and hiking are serious activites here. Even in the city of Prague, bike routes are well-marked and numbered. This signpost is on the trail to Karlovy Vary. Funny that when you leave Loket, the same sort of sign indicates that Karlovy Vary is 13 km away. Then after you walk 2 km, Karlovy Vary becomes 16 km distant. Must be the influence of the beer to be had at the 2 km mark.

Night life in Loket

Heading out to check on the first big concert at the ampitheater. You might note that it's not even dark yet, and this was about 9:00 PM.

We decided to go for a beer.....

And now the show!

Omega from Hungary was the headline band. They have been playing together since the 1970's. They had a neat laser light show, as you can see in this shot taken from the bridge.
