Hat tricks & other silliness

We are behind in blogging - Tom's computer won't hold a charge & is currently dead & mine has a virus that won't allow me to sign in to anything such as blogger. I brought my work laptop home to use this weekend.

Last weekend we enjoyed the company of Rich, Diane, Chandler & Garrett on Friday evening. Chandler had spent some time at Ithaca College and Tom picked him up. We had a great time, and I got a new hat! I saw this hat on Diane's blog & coveted it. Thanks, Diane!

Saturday the city of Cortland went wild because of the football game between Ithaca College & Cortland State known as the Cortaca Jug game. This game has been played for the last 50 years or so, and has become known as the biggest little college game in the nation. It was in Cortland this year, and the students were celebrating wildly! Even though Cortland lost, there were parties and fireworks in the park behind our house all evening. By the time we went to bed, things had quieted down, so I was terrified when I heard loud knocking on our door about 1 AM. Tom got up to open the door to police officers, who thought they were looking for our downstairs tenant. I looked out the window and noted that the house was surrounded by cops! It seems there had been an "altercation" on the other side of the city involving a hand gun, and someome gave out our tenant's name. However, the police began to describe the person they were looking for, and we were able to say with certainty that it wasn't our tenant. We later found out our tenant was out of town that night, and had nothing to do with the fight. We did lose a little sleep, though.

Sunday was a much quieter day, and we decided we should start trying to figure out how we're going to get our stuff to Prague. We started with summer clothes...

Have you ever seen space bags advertised on TV? We did, and decided to try it. It's sort of like vacuum packing food. We took piles of clothes like this......

and squashed them down to this...... It didn't work exactly the way we had imagined, but definitely made the pile smaller. the only problem is that now they are a solid block rather than being squishable like in a suitcase, and they still weigh the same. Not sure if we'll keep them this way or not.....

and lastly, I never blogged about Ian's cross country meet way back in October. I certainly meant to, because I had never been to one before. Even though I had to be in Syracuse by 8:30 AM on a very frosty Sat. AM, it was lots of fun. There were several schools at the meet with both boys & girls teams, and the energy & excitement they generated was contagious. Sue helps to sell refreshments and Rob volunteers by helping to park the cars and also helps to time the runners as they cross the finish line. Ian was one of the first Corcoran runners across the line, so of course we were very proud. Although I wasn't able to get to any other meets, I was glad I went to this one!

wine

I took a day off last week so that we could visit the wineries on the west side of Seneca Lake with some friends from our church. There was no snow in Cortland, so I didn't wear boots. What a difference a few miles make here in upstate NY!

We had a great time, and Tom captured the images below.....

Everyone needs a doormat like this one

Last stop of the day...

Fall is gone, Winter is here

I think the photos say it all -

We definitely now have snow, and had to shovel it yesterday.
