Marina Rats- Awe and Fear
Lesson in sociology- there can be no such thing as a class-less society! Even at the marina, we have our classes, or catagories.
The lowest class we call day-trippers. These are the folks who bring their boats in on a trailer on hot & sunny days, go out for a few hours, and then go home. Or they may keep their boat here, but they only show up in great weather, and spend just a few hours out on the lake. They often have difficulties with their boats or trailers that are amusing to us. We watch them with disdain.
The next class are week-enders. These folks would like to be at the marina all the time, but can't because of work or family obligations, so they spend their weekends and vacation time here. They are fun loving, and acceptable to us.
We, the elite, like to refer to ourselves as marina rats. We are those folks who spend a lot of time on their boats (as in we live here). We are here even in the cold and rainy times, and have been in the marina long enough to know all the unwritten rules, who is fighting with whom, who is helpful, who knows it all and is happy to tell you, who rules the roost, etc.
New boaters live in awe of the marina rats- and we like it that way!
Here is a group at rest.....
At work....(They are actually painting that pole, and installing rope lights on it)
